Invisibility Secret
"Lost"
by our badass young reporter Simon Hunt
A
disastrous blunder at a research facility in Ohio has led to the loss of
key scientific data.
In May this year, Professor Driscoll Luther, originally at the University
of Michigan, announced his team had discovered "the secret of
invisibility". The Government-funded project claimed to have developed a
solution that reflected "grey light", a refracted subset of ordinary
light. The effect, they say, was to render an object invisible to the
human eye, and yet still tangible. Much press attention was attracted to
the modestly resourced team, and an officially demonstration of the
methodology was scheduled for this Thursday.
But the project ran into difficulties two weeks ago, when a sample of the
solution was accidentally washed onto some working notes and laboratory
equipment. Since then, the team have been unable to locate the vital
formula used to synthesize the solution in the first place.
"I know where my computer is," Professor Luther explained. "But
unfortunately I can't see it, and nobody memorised the formula. It's just
a shame an antidote for the solution is still in the theoretical stage."
Luther's team still intend to apply for financial recognition for their
success, on the strength of several eye-witnesses who they claim are able
to confirm that they can't see the laptop either.
