BBC Slapped Over April Fool Joke

The BBC was tonight smacked about its proverbial head by the government over an April fools joke on its website which the powers that be thought "went too far".

"It was unnecessarily alarmist" said Herbert Stroke of the media watchdog OffSwitch. "Anyone seeing that headline could've panicked because it was from the BBC and the BBC are the most trusted people in the country apart from Blue Peter presenters and they could be said to be a sub set of the BBC."

We went away and spoke to someone else.

"It was disgusting and could easily have lead to trauma, spasms and fear" said Labour back bench MP Renata Quote. "I don't know how they can sleep at night."

The joke was believed to have been the work of someone with a sense of humour. BBC management say it shouldn't be too hard to find the culprit. The News Womb obtained a screen capture of the offending headline before it was e-yanked from existence by management. It is not the first time the BBC has fooled the nation and I'm sure it won't be the last.

The BBC asked us to assure worried readers that under no circumstances does Sophie Raworth ever eat lunch.
