1982 in hellmouth Hemel Hempstead

The Mississippi Mauler - a big, black American who would go onto much greater fame as Kamala - The Ugandan Giant in the USA. He may well hold the distinction of being the only man ever to wrestle singles matches against both Big Daddy and Hulk Hogan.

Big Daddy - say what you will about Big Daddy, the man was a hero to a lot of people. We see him wheeling a sick young girl to ringside as it was apparently her greatest wish.

I also noticed that Big Daddy appears to have a hump.

"Some people have a beef with Big Daddy" explains Kent Walton. They say it isn't fair that he never fights anyone as big as him. Well, all that has changed today as he takes on a big American monster. So now people will have a beef with Big Daddy because the big American monster isn't the promoter's brother. Daddy's reaction to this was to murmur "Mmm - beef".

This was actually two contests in one as we first had an arm wrestling match. Conscious of the fact that Daddy's wrestling matches only lasted two minutes they decided to pad it out with a dramatic test of strength beforehand.

The contest was the best two-out-of-three goes but Daddy being Daddy it was soon over by two to nil. None of that pesky drama or tension here.

Then came the actual wrestling part of the show and it was pretty much your standard stuff - lots of bouncing off Big Daddy's girth, lots of playing to the crowd and a quick knockout finish to send the punters home happy.

Easy! Easy! Take that evil. You can sneak a couple of wins while our back is turned but once we're at full strength with our knight in bulging armour, you don't stand a chance. Back to the grass where you belong, serpent.

Good 2-2 Evil

Seeing Big Daddy and the Mauler smash into each other on Saturday was followed four days later by an almost identical collision between a freighter and the planet Earth in the final episode of "Earthshock".
