1984 in glamorous Guildford
Tony "Banger" Walsh - I’d often wondered where Tony Walsh got the nickname “Banger”. Was he extremely promiscuous? Did he relax by lying on a plate next to some mashed potato? Did his organ resemble a sausage? Did you have to prick him before he was allowed to sunbathe? The answer, I am disappointed to tell you, is that he was originally “Head Banger” Tony Walsh and that it became shortened to “Banger”. With that cape and sensible haircut it should’ve been obvious that he was a head banger. I feel such a fool.
Steve Kelly - a man with a moustache. It looks as if he is so colourless that he's actually bleached the top rope he was standing against while waiting to be introduced. Maybe his jacket was blue when he first put it on. Shockingly, if Kent Walton is to be believed, this man is only 24.
Kent Walton pointed out that the referee was a very well respected chap. Hence the lack of rule breaking in the bout. The wrestlers didn't quite doff their caps but it was implied.
The story of this match is that Walsh – the bad guy – kept not breaking the rules. Kent Walton repeatedly pointed this out and assured us that Walsh was almost certainly about to do something wicked. But he didn’t. After a while the audience realised he wasn’t going to be dastardly so they fell asleep. He won in round three with a dynamic looking powerslam.
Walsh may not have been evil here but the Bible reminds us that evil can often hide in sheep's clothing so Walsh's victory shouldn't be taken as a sign of redemption but simply that he is a wolf with the good sense to hide his wickedness from the well respected referee. Good 0-2 Evil
This match aired the day after part two of "The Awakening" was shown. Doctor Who in those days being broadcast on Thursday and Friday night instead of its usual Saturday teatime.
