We left the Tomorrow People’s lab being invaded by Ginge and Lefty after a brainwashed Stephen had deactivated TIM, the biological computer, under orders from Jedikiah, the religious cult leader and probably alien, who is himself the servant of an unseen power who may or may not have one eye. What will happen in episode three?
In John’s splendidly geeky bedroom, the man himself slumbers while Carol tries in vain to telepath his ass.
So she goes to see him in person. I’ve had that dream. It was a good one.
She says her jaunting belt isn’t working and TIM is offline. Being a girl, John doesn’t quite believe her. So he gives the ladies and gay gentlemen a look at his torso while he tries to remember where he left his jaunting belt. I can see it. Unless John has other leather straps about his bedroom.
He tries it for himself and – GOLLY – the girl is right. TIM isn’t working.
They try to telepath Stephen but he’s looking all vacant. For once this isn't a still but a ten second looped video. I don’t know why I bothered.
John goes to his pants draw and takes out what appears to be a shard of nothingness. Carol calls it a crystal but it looks like a complete absence of anything. A nugget of nowt as a Yorkshireman would call it.
Oh – they’ve switched off the chromakey – now it looks rubbish. And it doesn’t work – you simply can’t get through to a computer that is switched off.
Now Jedikiah's invaded the lab too. He’s brought a briefcase with him. But it isn’t serious yet – John doesn’t think it’s worth waking Kenny. Two episodes and four minutes – that’s how long it took until Kenny was officially dumped from this show. He’ll return but that stunt with the cup from last week is his last substantial contribution to proceedings I'll wager.
Jedikiah puts a thing on Stephen’s head. It makes a swirly pattern. How sweet – the telepathic inhibitor has a screensaver. Neat.
Carol doesn’t take the hint and go away while John is changing. He’s taking ages over that sock – you’d think she’d take the hint. Mind you, he’s already done the trousers so what is there left to hide?
Carol asks whether John thinks Stephen is "one of those". She’s appalled at the mere idea.
John even goes so far as to suggest Stephen might not be human at all.
They begin the slow process of manual jaunts back to the lab. When TIM and his belts help, they only need to adopt a camp pose. When all they have his hard graft, they become rather depressed.
But it works.
Ginge gives Jedikiah a quick lecture on the London Underground – the Lab is part of a disused station etc – and Jedikiah gives the sort of non-committal answer we’ve all given when someone starts talking to us about trains.
This is Jedikiah’s plan – put this little gadget outside the lab and trap the Tomorrow People. It looks like a cross between Dusty Bin and some disco lighting to me. But then I’m not evil so what do I know? I’m still hoping someone will make an app for my iPhone that’ll let me jaunt.
When Lefty has gone, Stephen reveals that he’s over the worst of his brainwashing and is now capable of looking quizzical.
He about to switch TIM on when Jedikiah barges in and interrupts. Damnation.
Jedikiah is appalled.
Stephen is tied to a chair while Jedikiah tunes the screen in to the "Just Outside This Room Channel" (shortly to be rebranded as "UK Colin+1")
Carol and John arrive at the station. John is glum because jaunting is rubbish without TIM. I thought they were the next stage of human evolution. I don’t remember early humans needing some fluid filled tubes to make arrows or paint on cave walls. We did it the old fashioned way – without alien machines. Grow up, John.
They creep along a corridor as if expecting trouble.
They find trouble.
They jaunt away and the thing explodes. That’s either a trap that has worked or a trap that hasn’t worked. I hope we find out which it is.
"They’ve been intercepted as planned" says Jedikiah. Sucks to be Carol and John.
They’re in hyperspace – a non-dimension between time and non-time. Not good. Not good at all.
Jedikiah reports to his mysterious boss. He says he’s got three of the four subjects in his power. He gives the hyperspacial coordinates to unseen boss. That’ll come in handy later when Stephen gets away. Probably.
Being in hyperspace really takes it out of you – John and Carol are yawning their superior little heads off.
Bugger – John’s arm is disappearing. It might just be chromakey spillage though. Let’s see if they mention it.
They do – it seems hyperspace doesn’t like people and tries to dissipate them. You mustn’t fall asleep. It’s vital. Carol takes his advice to heart.
Meanwhile, like anyone cares, Kenny wakes up in his Arsenal bedroom. He gets no reply from the others. But that’s not unusual for Kenny as no one likes him.
While Stephen struggles with his bonds and Ginge and Lefty snooze, Jedikiah is keeping a close watch for the inevitable arrival of Kenny. He needs him to complete the set. Then he can go home.
Back in hyperspace, Carol has counted all the way to three hundred thousand and she’s still sleepy. I think her mistake was using the sheep system. That’s bound to make the old eye lids droop.
Kenny jaunts into the lab and is immediately capt… wait…
…no – he destroys the interceptor. Well done Kenny. He’s saved the day. Kenny has only bloody saved the day.
He locks the door to keep Ginge and Jedikiah out and then moves swiftly to one side so Lefty’s lunge ends up with him in no fit state to be evil.
Kenny turns TIM on and Stephen gives him the hyperspace coordinates of Carol and John. It’s turned out ok, hasn’t it?
Meanwhile, Jedikiah tries to cut the door open with a plastic funnel.
Against all odds, it seems to work.
Damn – things are going wrong again. Kenny goes outside and gets shot while Stephen is beaten up inside by Lefty.
Yay – John and Carol are back and safe.
Boo – Jedikiah makes this a stand-off.
He freezes John, Carol and Stephen with his evil ice gun. Chilly.
Postscript – the Next Time trailer shows us that everyone is fine. Phew. Wouldn’t like to have spent a week wondering. Thanks Thames.
