We rejoin the story with Commando Cody fighting the moon men while Retick tries to shoot him with an impractical but powerful ray gun. Hurrah! Cody had the good fortune to leap out of the way shortly before being atomically disintegrated to death.

One of the moon men tries to stop him but, not even stopping to put his bucket helmet down, Cody slugs him with a punch that reminds me of the Couture-Sylvia fight (except Randy Couture wasn’t holding a bucket).

Retick stands and watches Cody escape, unable to act as he is once more filling his atom gun with atomic ball bearings.

Cody, on the moon’s well-lit surface, activates his flying suit and flies away.

Cody and his comrades sit down and chat about the impending invasion by the moon men. No one is in the least bit surprised that they are discussing an impending invasion by moon men.

These people are professional actors. Whether they are awake or not you can judge for yourself

They formulate a plan – Cody will attach a canister of gas to the moon men’s city and knock them out. Then he can sneak in and steal Retick’s impractical ray gun. Then they’d have something with which to fight the moon men. As it is they’ve only got a machine gun. Always a good thing to take with you in a pressurised rocket.

ARGH! I’m seeing double. Either that or they brought two buckets with them to the moon.

Commando Cody attaches the gas to the city’s air supply. Luckily, the connectors are compatible, the city draws all its air from the surface of the airless moon using a single small tube and one tiny canister is enough to put an entire city to sleep. Well, if you’re going to fight the odds you need a bit of luck on your side.

Inside the city, Retick realises there are ten and a half more episodes of the serial to come. Either that or he’s been affected by the gas.

This man faints brilliantly.

Cody begins the task of stealing the ray gun, unaware that Retick has a private supply of oxygen and is at that very moment reviving himself.

Retick and his henchman attack! A group hug ensues and the peoples of the Earth and the moon come to realise their common ground.

Actually, they just grapple in a manly way, taking care not to damage any of the props.

Cody wins and escapes with the ray gun.

But Retick won’t take this lying down – he orders his guards to pursue the humans. They are soon in hot pursuit, driving what appears to be a mobile recycling skip.

At least the moon men understand what space suits look like.

The tank catches up with our heroes and they open fire.

"What do we do now?" asks one of the bucket heads.

"Try and lose them" replies the other.

No one suggests using the GUN they’ve just stolen to FIRE back at the tank and maybe DESTROY it.

"That looks like a cave" says Cody as they spot a large opening in the rock. They would never have seen that had the moon been all dark and shit.

The tank can’t follow them. So the moon men do the obvious thing – rather than follow on foot they decide to MELT the entire rock face with their cannon.

Cody realises that the moon men are melting the rock. They decide to run deeper into the mountain to escape. "Never mind the gun" says Commando. It isn’t as if a RAY GUN which can melt rock would be of any use in escaping from a mountain.

A really rather effective river of molten rock follows them down the mountain’s convenient passages.

Our bucket-headed heroes find the way ahead is a dead end.

The river sloshes ever closer and there are some explosions to add drama.

Our heroes have either (a) drowned in molten rock or (b) been burned alive by molten rock or (c) been crushed by falling rock or (d) killed in an explosion. But they are deader than a dead thing which has been autopsied, pickled, bottled and stared at by students in biology classes for seventy years.

I hope the rest of the episodes are only 13 minutes long too. That would be a blessing.
