Appears in all 21 episodes, unsurprisingly! Reggie is a sales executive in his mid 40s who has worked for food firm Sunshine Desserts for 25 years. Married to Elizabeth, he has a daughter, Linda, and son Mark, both of whom have left home. As the series begins, the constant routine of his working life is starting to unhinge him...
The only other regular character to appear in all 21 episodes. Elizabeth is a loyal wife who loves Reggie dearly. A housewife, she sees him off to work at each morning, checking he has everything and looks presentable. She welcomes Reggie back in the evening with a drink and dinner in the oven.
Appears in every episode except the third. As Reggie's boss, he delights in running an orderly firm, and refuses to hear anything less than satisfactory from his employees, whether in terms of the firm's performance or their personal satisfaction. He takes childish delight in seeing his employees' discomfort when sitting in his chairs that emit an embarrassing raspberry like sound.
Appears in every episode except the sixth. Long time secretary of Reggie, she has been strongly attracted to Reggie for a long time, though it has taken him a while to realise. She has a lovely habit of reading the paper at her desk at the start of the working day, glancing at her watch and tidying the paper away and smiling as Reggie walks in the office, 11 minutes late!
Appears in episodes 1-2, 4-5, 8 and 13-21. The firm's doctor, he is very incompetent. When asking if a patient has certain symptoms for example, and they agree, he informs them that he has too and wonders what the problem is! His solution to most ailments is to take two aspirins. Doc can usually be seen lounging around at his desk, reading an adult magazine. He is keen to treat Joan at any time, wondering if she is feeling chesty!
Appears in every episode except the third. Works as a salesman under Reggie. Always eager to please (especially C.J.) he pronounces "Great!" after almost everything that is said to him. Somewhat childish, he also has a habit of making up silly phrases such as "success city Arizona" and "cards on the table city", much to Reggie's increasing annoyance...
Appears in every episode except the third. Like Tony, works under Reggie and his catchphrase is "Super!". Unlike Tony, he suffers from a severe lack of self-confidence and stammers when nervous. Marries Prue between the events of the second and third series.
Prue Harris-Jones (Theresa Watson) Appears in episodes 15-21. David's wife is loyal and helps to make David a little more self-confident. They name their first baby after Reggie. Seen for the first time as the commune is being set up, she is made responsible for crafts. She and David often wear matching clothes and tend to exclaim "Super!" in unison.
Appears in episodes 2-3, 7-8, 10, 13-14 and 16-21. Elizabeth's brother, he has left the Army and found it hard to adjust to civvie street. He lives in a pokey bedsit and frequently visits Elizabeth and Reggie on the look out for "nosh" due to the inevitable "cock up on the catering front."
Appears in episodes 2, 6-11 and 13-21. Happy go lucky daughter of Reggie and Elizabeth. She has even gained the odd eccentricity from her father. Spends most of her time looking after her husband, Tom, and their children Adam and Jocasta.
Appears in episodes 2-3, 7-11 and 13-21. Linda's husband, he is an estate agent and very pompous, much to Reggie's annoyance. In fact, Reggie doesn't like him much at all, and detests Tom's home made wines - made of such delights as brussel sprouts and stinging nettles!
