Episode Ten 5th October 1977
Reggie gets sacked from the pig farm when his boss finds out the truth about who Reggie is, while Elizabeth also gets the sack when she dares to tell the customers the truth about the Sunshine Desserts products. In fact, Elizabeth begins to resemble Reggie, even going to great lengths to insult Tom. Reggie and Elizabeth decide to set up their own shop - and after a visit to Jimmy's bedsit, Reggie realises that they will sell rubbish - literally...
Reggie working at pig farm. Elizabeth at Sunshine Desserts. Reggie suspects Elizabeth of affair with C.J.
No fantasies this time, although when Elizabeth's mother is mentioned, Reggie notes that he still can't see the hippo.
"...without recognising a front when I see one." "...without recognising another front when I see one." "...by having two black eyes." "...by telling the truth." (C.J. then points out he wouldn't last a week by telling the truth!) Other C.J. pearls of wisdom include "No secretary of mine has ever fallen in love with her boss", "There's no smoke without the worm turning" and "We aren't one of those dreadful firms where the boss is always right - I could be wrong!". C.J. informs Reggie that he has had new Japanese chairs installed - small but silent! He tells Reggje that if Tony isn't the man that Elizabeth has been having an affair with, "I am the ticket attendant in a Yugoslavian nudist colony". C.J. lives in Godalming. Mrs C.J. has broken her leg while in Luxembourg - C.J. tells Elizabeth that he nearly cried with joy! He calls Elizabeth a caring and beautiful woman - then sacks her!
We get a "Great!" and a "Super!" when Tony and David are summoned to C.J.'s office, but he tells them that it is not great or super, it's very sad (referring to the forthcoming sacking of Elizabeth). This gets a "Sorry C.J." from both of them. Tony tells Elizabeth that it was a great letter that she typed. As they leave the office, there's a "Great!" and a "Super!", which makes C.J. frown. This results in a "Sorry C.J." from them both again.
"...pig person". Tom brings some nettle wine with him, which Elizabeth, taking Reggie's role, calls repulsive. Tom says that he knows that neither Reggie nor Elizabeth likes him. Once Tom has left, Reggie remarks that the nettle wine stings.
Jimmy visits Reggie and Elizabeth as he has had a bit of a cock up on the catering front, asking for scrag end of lamb and vegetables. He tells Reggie it was a decoy to get Elizabeth out of the way, as he has a job for Reggie, and it's hush-hush. When Reggie visits Jimmy later at his bedsit, Jimmy tells him that there is a "cock up on the liquid refreshment front" as he hasn't any whiskey.
Elizabeth reveals that while she was in Worthing with her mother, she thought Reggie was having an affair with Joan. The events of Episode 3 are discussed when Reggie admits that he and Joan almost slept together, but were interrupted by the arrival of the various family members. Reggie is sacked by Mr Pelham when the latter finds out about Reggie having left his job, faked suicide and remarrying his wife. He doesn't like being deceived, but tells Reggie that he did like him. Mrs Pelham died seven years ago when she stepped in front of a bus. Mr Pelham describes his son as a lout. Reggie says that "I was the Florence Nightingale of the swill!".
