Episode Eight

21st September 1977

Reggie soon finds himself back in the daily routine of commuting and working for Sunshine Desserts, and he soon gets tired of having to act differently as Martin Wellbourne. He decides to reveal to his family that he is in fact Reggie, and that his "death" was faked. At work, both Joan and Doc Morrissey realise that Martin is in fact Reggie, and when Doc informs C.J., both Doc and Reggie are sacked, and Reggie finds himself cleaning out the pigs for a living...

For once, there are no daydream sequences, and indeed when Elizabeth mentions her mother, soon after Reggie has discarded his Martin disguise, Reggie finds to his astonishment that he no longer sees the hippo!

On Monday, we see that the sign is composed of the letters NSHINE DE ERTS.

On Monday, it's due to "defective bogie at Earlsfield." and on Wednesday it's because of "water seeping through the cables at Effingham Junction." Note that Reggie is delayed by a further six minutes compared to the first series.

Other C.J. pearls of wisdom include "Proliferation is the thief of time" and "Idle hands make heavy work".

Neither Mrs C.J. nor I has ever "let short term setbacks obscure the long term view" and "kissed all the employees every morning".

C.J. met Doc Morrissey on Saturday and, as part of his kinder image, has given him his job back. On Wednesday, Doc's first day back, C.J. sacks him for being an idiot for revealing to C.J. that Martin was in fact Reggie - he also sacks Reggie for the deception.

David is working on the new nut whirl range, and is enjoying it immensely. He remarks "Super!" when Joan goes to get him a coffee, and again when Reggie asks how things are. David has joined the Sunshine Singers. Tony joins in the meeting in Reggie's office, leading to two Greats and three Supers.

Reggie rings Marion on Monday morning, wanting. to see C.J. any time in the morning to discuss the problem of absenteeism due to sickness - only to find that C.J. is absent sick!

"mystery person". Tom gave Linda a set of vegetable knives for Christmas. He made some sprout wine in 1972, which Reggie tastes and describes as horrible. Linda states that 1972 was not a good year for sprouts. Reggie describes Tom to himself as a pompous prig. Tom gave 50p at Reggie's memorial service.

In fact, Jimmy has a "bit of a cock up on the unemployment front" - he has been dumped out of the British Army for being too old.

At Sunshine Desserts, production is down 1.2%, and absenteeism due to sickness is up 3.1%. Reggie hates dry martini and boiled silverside, and never wanted to go for a walk in the evenings. His son Mark is touring Africa - playing No Sex Please, We're British to the Masai.
