Episode Seven

20th October 1976

Reggie attends his own memorial service in his new disguise, Martin Wellbourne, pretending to be an old friend of Reggie's. He spends some quality time with Elizabeth, with the result that she calls off her engagement with Henry Possett and now agrees to marry Martin. "Martin" gets a job with Sunshine Desserts, working on the Reginald Perrin Memorial Foundation. When Linda decides to tell her mother that Martin is in fact Reggie, Elizabeth reveals that she knows, but feels that Reggie will be happier as Martin...

Reggie Perrin, 46, presumed dead, reveals identity to daughter. Wishes to return to wife, but wife engaged to Henry Possett. Oh misery! Reggie Perrin, heavily disguised...

We see a brief shot of Reggie and Elizabeth relaxing and enjoying each other's company in the countryside. When Joan tells "Martin" that she hopes he will find her satisfactory, we get the shot of Reggie and Joan snogging on a desk in the middle of a field. When Elizabeth tells Martin that he hasn't met her mother yet, we get the hippo shot. Later, when Martin mentions that they are going to see her mother at the weekend, Elizabeth sees the hippo!

"...going on and on about gumboots".

"...by knowing the difference between one foreign country and another".

"...without knowing there's no fun in getting where I am today!".

"...without naming it the Reginald Perrin Memorial Foundation".

C.J. says that when they made Reggie Perrin, they threw the mould away. He points out that Mrs C.J. finds company difficult. He has had new chairs installed in his office - but they still make an embarrassing noise when sat on. C.J. says that business is about happiness, and he is setting up a foundation to make the employees happy. His secretary is called Marion.

Tony is now "Martin's" departmental head, and on meeting him Tony utters three Greats! After one of C.J.'s proclamations, we get a Great! from Tony and a Super! from Martin.

"coffee person" nor a "person person". Linda calls Tom a forgetfulness person. Tom has made some fig wine recently. Tom says that Reggie was a nice man, but that he didn't like Tom for some reason.

Abide With Me is sung at Reggie's memorial service. Reggie tells himself that it is rather fun and he is proud to be at the service. His son Mark has made his West End debut with one line in a play ("Here are the gumboots you ordered, Madam!") - however, the play soon closed down. Jimmy's surname is revealed as Anderson. Sales at Sunshine Desserts were down 0.3% last month.
