"Royal Variety Performance"

27th November 1986

Del, Rodney and Albert arrive at Drury Lane London, thinking they are delivering dodgy goods to "Chunky Lewis", a nightclub owner in the West End ("Drury Lane" is missing some letters, leading to the boys mistaking it for the Delaney Club). They end up walking into the middle of the Royal Variety performance…

The trio are trying to smuggle "Glen MacDonald Whiskey - Product of Malaysia" into the club.

Albert hasn’t been to Delaney’s Club for "years". Chunky Lewis is an old acquaintance of Del’s, and Albert remarks on how the club has been "done up" (a roof conversion is mentioned!)

"Move out…. Slowly… no-one will be any the wiser!"

Our threesome attempt to "sneak out" the Royal Albert Hall when they spot the Queen, in front of hundreds of audience members.

For the first time in the series, we meet a member of the Royal Family, though we don’t find out who it is (she’s just off screen, though "Her Majesty" implies it’s the Queen).

A gag-free two minute special episode. The audience seem oddly to laugh at jokes that aren’t funny ("Nissan started with a hut" gets a huge roar, for some reason) and it’s doubtful even the Trotter’s would be stupid enough to mistake the Royal Albert Hall for the Delaney’s Club. Is the Royal Variety Performance still on? If so, it really shouldn’t be if this is anything to go by!
