The Newsletter Revisited
In 1996, the Doctor Who
Appreciation Society launched a new monthly newsletter to its members.
Simply called “The DWAS Newsletter”, it was the most up-to-the-minute and
informative medium available to fans of Doctor Who. However, controversy
soon began to dog the Newsletter, with many of the stories being denounced
as fraudulent and libellous by an array of scandalised stars. In a frenzy
of moral panic following threats of legal action, the DWAS decided to
simply discontinue producing it, and replaced it with a dull and dry
pamphlet. However, the editorial team at the Newsletter decided to carry
on publishing their controversial stories anyway, simply dropping the
‘DWAS’ from the publication’s title.
To celebrate the recent
MBBE* awarded to a regular from the pages of the Newsletter, Peter Purves,
the Vervoid is delighted to publish some classic reprinted editions of the
Newsletter from its late Nineties heyday.
