A life lesson learned from The Space Museum

Life is full of contorted sets of circumstances that weave their convoluted path from point A to a point Z along a route that no one could’ve predicted. When things go badly it is tempting to blame predetermination – fate – for your ills and so absolve you of blame for your predicament. But a belief in destiny may comfort you in the short term but it prevents positive action in the long term and you get yourself settled in a rut which you become convinced it is beyond your powers to get out of.

For those that have fallen into the trap of fatalism, the following three stage plan will help you to take back the reigns of your life and be the jockey of your own destiny horse.

1. Make a list of the important moments in your life and how your direct actions led to those results. Learn to see how it is people and their free will that shapes all of our lives and not an unseen force. Once you begin to understand how you got from A to B, you can begin to work out a plan to get you to point C and on to point D and so on.

2. Take deep calming breaths before taking any action.

3. Find some wimpish rebels with queer eyebrows and lead them in armed revolt against some oppressive but portly and well-groomed imperialists.

Following these three simple steps should enable you to map out your own life and not leave it to others (because there are no fates – only other people who’ve already learned this lesson!)
