St Kaled's Parish Newsletter - Issue Four

Hullo!!!!

Every month I sit at my typewriter, in my little study at the back of the Vicarage, and worry whether I have enough material to fill an issue of the parish newsletter. Not!!! (as young people such as my son Darren might say). It's been another jam packed month... and I don't just mean Edith Dalek's strawberry preserve!!!!

A Guest Speaker at St Kaled's

We were fortunate to secure an evening with noted (and controversial) naturalist Charles Dalekwin last week and did he ever put the robocat amongst the robopigeons!!! His talk - "The Origins of Daleks" - raised some important questions about whether we were created in the image of our Lord or just, as he argued, from the waist down. I am a man of the Church (obviously!!!) and I believe that Daleks have been the same since we trundled around the Garden of Eden. A paradise which was only spoilt when Eve exterminated the apple tree and we were cast out. Mr Dalekwin - though supporting his case with colourful slides - cannot change my basic faith in our origins. His lecture is destined to live in the memory (and may well be repeated ad nauseum around the parish) but it remains little more than an entertaining fantasy.

The Annual St Kaled's Fancy Dress Extravaganza

I don't know about you but I enjoyed myself enormously at the fancy dress extravaganza (typical Dennis Dalek - balls aren't good enough for him!!!) even though the choice of costumes was a little limited. Most of our Parish members went as tatty, battered looking...well... Daleks. I'd like to think it was a Last of the Summer Wine tribute but I fear it is more a lack of imagination on our part. Our neighbours from Movella-in-the-Wold entered into the spirit a little more... even if they all came dressed as Ruud Gullit. The new rector Mr Adams' influence on proceedings was rather obvious at times and those in the parish who dislike this (step forward Mr Brunt) made their views pretty plain. The winner of the Fancy Dress Extravaganza Cup was Miss Lalla Dalek who came dressed as television character "Doctor Who". A bunch of spoons heading your way Miss Dalek!!!!

A Message From the Vicar

That's me!!! Unfortunately, due to the days becoming shorter as we head for winter, there may not be as many events taking place within the parish. However, I'd like to assure you that when these infrequent events occur, we intend to squeeze as much in as we possibly can. It's better to do too much than too little!!!

I'm afraid that's all from me for now. Wrap up warm and don't forget to join me in church this Sunday - we're baptising little Ian Duncan Dalek!!!!

Bless you my children

Nigel
