In 1965 the BBC commissioned a serial from writer Peter R Newman. Impressed by his Doctor Who scripts, the head of serials was keen to feature the further adventures of Captain Maitland and his crew. Sadly, all recordings of the series were destroyed shortly after broadcast (sometimes minutes after the final credits had rolled) and all that remains is the spinoff novel by Geoff Tepid.
