The
Basics - Issue 165, 3rd October 1990. The front cover is a photo of Jo
Grant from Day of the Daleks, with Katy Manning interviewed inside.
News And Views - A very news-light issue, with no
further news on either the future of the TV programme or the Green Light
(formerly Coast To Coast) film.
Review - The Ghost Light novelisation is reviewed -
"a Doctor Who novel as opposed to a novelisation."
Notables - A new feature, Who's Who?, debuts with
Lalla Ward. There is a 2 page Matrix Data Bank devoted to video effects.
Skaro Says - Si Hart found the Katy Manning
interview to be quite odd, as there were only token references to Doctor
Who in it. As such, he wondered what the point of it was, although he
rated it as good because she is so entertaining and kooky! Tim Hawtin also
found the interview to be fascinating, and liked the artwork for Terror of
the Autons, the Who's Who pages, the comics and The Doctor Abroad feature
on location filming.
Critique - Although there may not have been much of
particular note in this issue (as evidenced above), it's actually a good,
solid read, starting on the inside front cover with the new Who's Who?
feature, which was a good addition to the magazine. As Tim noted, there's
some further good artwork from Colin Howard on the Terror of the Autons
Archive, with the Fact File getting more and more detailed. The Doctor
Abroad feature was a particular highlight of mine. Gallifrey Guardian
included the full rundown of the contents of the BSB Doctor Who Weekend,
which I would have been disappointed not to be able to see at the time,
bearing in mind that the video range was still in its infancy. I always
liked the back cover advertising it too...
