The
Basics - Issue 161, June 1990. The main photo on the front cover is of
the Second Doctor from The Two Doctors.
News And Views - BSB are planning a DW extravaganza
soon in their schedules. They will not be showing stories in their regular
weekend schedule that lead into missing material, such as The Edge of
Destruction. The Target imprint will be staying at W. H. Allen for the
foreseeable future. The provisional release schedule is Mission To Magnus
(July), Battlefield (August), Ghost Light (September), The Curse of Fenric
(October), Survival (November), The Pescatons (December).
Notables - A new feature, Those Radio Times, begins
looking at the past coverage of the show in the listings magazine.
Boxpops - Top of the pop charts in June 1990 were
the continuing Killer, World In Motion by England New Order and Sacrifice
by Elton John.
Skaro Says - Si Hart liked Colin Howard's full page
colour illustration of the start of Masque of Mandragora which accompanied
the Archive - a nice innovation that finished all too soon. Sidesk feels
that World In Motion is still the greatest footballing song ever made.
Critique - After the excellence of recent issues,
this one has less to recommend it, though I do agree with Si Hart about
the Masque artwork intro and the other Si about the merits of World In
Motion! It is notable though that the Archive is also expanded upon with
the inclusion of design artwork from, and an interview with, designer
Barry Newbery. The extra attention given to the Archive/Fact File could be
seen as a precursor of the new, improved regular Archives that were on
their way. For me, the highlight of this issue was the start of the
ongoing series of features Those Radio Times. I've been interested in RT
for about as long as I have Doctor Who, and the two have been inextricably
linked together (none more so than in 2005).
