The Basics - Issue 156, January 1990. The front cover is a photo of the Seventh Doctor from The Curse of Fenric, and the back cover pin up is of the Fourth Doctor from State of Decay.

News And Views - It may be at least eighteen months before any new series airs, with it being unlikely that Sylvester McCoy or Sophie Aldred will star. A series of repeats may cover the gap in 1990, to maximise publicity for the new film, which now has a £22 million budget. Season 26 ratings have picked up following a slow start. Tom Baker writes in to thank DWM for the 10th Anniversary edition. The General Manager of Forbidden Planet writes in regarding the October Cafe Munchen signing session.

New Fiction - In a complete comic strip, the Doctor encounters the Stairway To Heaven.

Reviews - Off The Shelf reviews Planet of Giants ("really good" 3.5/5), Silver Nemesis ("best forgotten" 0.5/5) and the Titan script book of The Daleks ("a damned good script" 3.5/5).

Boxpops - One Foot In The Grave debuts on BBC1 on 4th January. Top of the pop charts in January 1990 were the continuing Band Aid II, Hangin' Tough by New Kids On The Block and Tears On My Pillow by Kylie Minogue.

Skaro Says - Although he has bought every issue since 147, Matthew Tate can't remember anything about this issue! Paul Clement remembers this issue primarily for the reviews, and he rather liked the Silver Nemesis novelisation. Tim Hawtin loves the cartoons, and remarks that the lead news item on the show's secure future is laughable in hindsight. Andrew Curnow notes that this issue included the last annual Season Poll - until 2005! He finds the cover rather dull. Si Hart likes the William Emms interview and the inventive, if not great, artwork accompanying The Web Planet archive. He likes seeing Martin Jarvis in the well drawn and quite good comic strip, but his favourite feature is Raising Demons, complete with its photo of Marek Anton's bare chest!

Critique - The last issue on sale in the 1980s is a solid one, but nothing really stands out for me. They don't even seem to acknowledge that it's the Christmas Issue! The comic strip is another fairly unmemorable Seventh Doctor complete story for me which I'd completely forgotten about. With the Fact File held over, the Archive is just a synopsis of the first five episodes, although I agree that the artwork is quite inventive. My favourite feature would have been the Location Guide on the East and Midlands, especially as I spent a long time living in East Anglia. I get the feeling that the news of repeats that year to bridge the gap to the next series was more wishful thinking than anything else...
