The Basics - Issue 145, February 1989. The main photo on the front cover is from The Greatest Show In The Galaxy. Extra colour pages are included permanently for no extra cost, although the page count remains at 36, thanks to increased sales. The contents page - now in colour - is called Into The Vortex.

News And Views - Season 26 got the go-ahead from the BBC in November, and has a budget of £1.6 million. John Natthan-Turner will be staying on as producer, along with Andrew Cartmel as script editor. A new story from Ben Aaronovitch is provisionally titled Storm Over Avallion and Ian Briggs' is provisionally titled Wolf Time. The first run of Peter Haining's 25 Glorious Years book has sold out. The new DW exhibition at Space Adventure in London was opened on 15th November.

Reviews - After Image reviews Remembrance of the Daleks and The Happiness Patrol, respectively "a great story, towering head and shoulders above anything in the previous two seasons" and "a new departure for the show; a story that you either loved or loathed."

Other Regulars - A new two part comic strip, Time And Tide, begins.

Boxpops - Sky launches its first four channels on February 5th - Sky Channel, Sky Movies, Sky News and Eurosport. Top of the pop charts in February 89 were the continuing Marc Almond and Belfast Child by Simple Minds.

Critique - This is another good issue overall, with the magazine benefiting from the extra colour pages, and even the contents page being spruced up a bit. The review quotes hit the mark exactly for me regarding Remembrance (indeed, I would say it's better than anything from the previous three seasons!) and as for Happiness Patrol, I'm in the "loathe it" camp. The Time and Tide comic strip is a real oddity, with its savage race who take glee in beheading others - all seen in gory detail on the page!
