The Basics - Issue 141, October 1988. The front cover has a photo re-creation of the Radio Times cover for The Dalek Invasion of Earth, which is featured in this issue's Nostalgia.

Preview - The Greatest Show In The Galaxy is previewed - "It promises to be a very intriguing addition to this season."

Other Regulars - A new two part comic strip, Planet of the Dead, begins and features all seven incarnations of the Dcotor and various companions.

Boxpops - The evening line up on BBC1 on Wednesday 5th October had Wogan at 7pm followed by Doctor Who (new series), Miss Marple : Nemesis, Points Of View, 9 O'Clock News, Revelations and Sportsnight. BBC2 had DEF II between 6pm and 7.45pm, featuring Mission Impossible, Animation Now and Open To Question. Following this were Conference Day, Timewatch and a double bill of Sean Connery films either side of Newsnight.

Top of the pop charts in October 88 were the continuing Hollies, Desire by U2, One Moment In Time by Whitney Houston and Orinoco Flow by Enya.

Critique - The highlight of this issue for me was the Nostalgia feature on Dalek Invasion of Earth - I'd always enjoyed the Target novelisation, and this, complete with its rare photos, really made me yearn to see it - little did I know that its video release was some 18 months away. A clever idea to recreate the classic Radio Times cover - something the RT themselves sort of did this year too! There are some rare photos from The Mutants too courtesy of the Chatham Standard, including one of Jon Pertwee and a mouse on his shoulder! I enjoyed Planet of the Dead, with good artwork from Lee Sullivan and a clever concept in the first episode of seeing the companions who had died - either on screen or even in the DWM strip itself in the case of Jamie.
