The Basics - Issue 139, August 1988. The front cover's main photo is from Masque of Mandragrora, with the Season 14 Flashback concluding inside. The price rises 25p to £1.25.

News And Views - The Greatest Show in the Galaxy was nearly cancelled due to a discovery of asbestos in the BBC studios in May, but filiming was rescheduled at Elstree Studios. The name of the final story of the season has been changed from Nemesis to Silver Nemesis, to reflect the return of the Cybermen. The New Jersey Network will be making a one hour documentary, concentrating on Silver Nemesis. Wartime, starring John Levene as Benton, will be released on August 10th. Both of the 60s Dalek films have been released on Warner Home Video. Kate O'Mara and Chris Clough write in to give thanks for their Season Survey wins. John McElroy of WHOMOBILIA writes in to point out that he has been forced to close his photo service.

Reviews - Off The Shelf reviews The War Machines ("a pure joy; fab and groovy" 4.5/5) and The Smugglers ("by no means a bad book" 3/5).

Other Regulars - The complete comic strip this month is called Culture Shock!

Boxpops - Top of the pop charts in August 88 was The Only Way Is Up by Yazz and the Plastic Population.

Skaro Says - Andrew Curnow remembers nothing of this issue - but does remember Yazz's debut performance on Wogan! Despite being a hefty 25% increase, Jonno wasn't too concerned with the price rise this time as the quality of the magazine had improved. He finds it amazing to think back on how close Greatest Show came to ending up like Shada, and feels that it benefitted from being shot inside a tent in a car park. Logo Polish ponders on whether we would have seen Sylvester McCoy narrating it on video and filling in the missing bits in the style of Shada, had it not been finished. Si Hart notes that the comic strip was drawn by the art director on the 2005 series - Bryan Hitch.

Paying the bills

I can't believe they forgot to mention that the Sylvester McCoy doll is life-size
