The
Basics - Issue 129, October 1987. The front cover has a photo of the
Seventh Doctor, with the show Back On TV! The back cover pin up is of
Warrant Officer Benton, from the video Wartime, which is previewed in a
feature inside.
News And Views - JNT now thinks it is "unlikely"
that the third story will change its title to Flight of the Chimeron. BBC
Video have released Death to the Daleks at the new budget price of £9.99.
Tom Baker era episodes have started airing on SuperChannel. Nick Walters
of Bristol has two letters published - both referring to the forthcoming
regeneration.
Previews And Reviews - Paradise Towers is previewed
- "a marvellous mixture of black comedy and pathos. This story is going
to be a winner." Off The Shelf reviews The Mysterious Planet and
Vengeance On Varos, respectively "an average book of a slightly less
than average script" and "no great classic, but it's a typically
adventurous novel".
Boxpops - Top of the pop charts in October 87 were
Pump Up The Volume by MARRS and You Win Again by the Bee Gees.
Skaro Says - Nathan Cooke bought Wartime at the
time, and still has it signed by John Levene and Michael Wisher, although
he hasn't seen it for over 15 years. His sister recorded Super Channel for
him, so that he got copies of Seasons 12 to 14. He remembers buying Death
to the Daleks at the budget price, but being disappointed that it did not
live up to his fond childhood memories of it. He agreed with the preview
that Paradise Towers was indeed marvellous, with the show on top form.
Logo Polish also bought Death to the Daleks in 1987, but with no previous
memories of it, just enjoyed it! Craig Rollins hated the first two stories
of Season 24 at the time, and almost gave up watching the show. He also
almost gave up buying DWM, as it was effectively promoting a programme
that he no longer enjoyed. October 87 was the month that Jonno started at
Polytechnic - beforehand, he had envisaged sharing his love of the
programme with other students in a common room, but was too embarrassed to
admit to liking the show! He also nearly gave up on DWM, as he was living
on a very tight budget and much preferred DWB, but he stuck it out...
