The
Basics - Issue 128, September 1987. The front cover is a photo of Kate
O'Mara, who is interviewed inside, and the back cover is a photo of Adric,
the subject of this month's Travelling Companions.
News And Views - JNT states that the third story
title may change to Flight of the Chimeron, but he has yet to make up his
mind. The location for the story will be Wales, and Don Henderson and Ken
Dodd will star in it. Glitz will return in Dragonfire. Fulton Mackay
passed away recently.
Previews And Reviews - Time And The Rani is
previewed -"Despite reservations, I've little doubt that this one will
have viewers crying out for more; Sylvester's performance is a brilliant
piece of work." Off The Shelf reviews The Time Meddler - "a very
dark, almost menacing book; a vast improvement on Robinson's previous book
(The Sensorites)."
Notables - What The Papers Said! debuts, looking at
press coverage throughout 1986.
Boxpops
- Blackadder The Third debuts on BBC1 on 17th September. Knights Of
God debuts on ITV on 6th September. The line up for BBC1 on Monday 7th
September was Wogan, Doctor Who (new series), Hi-de-Hi! (repeat), Dear
John (new series), Nine O'Clock News, Rough Justice (new series), Lovejoy
(repeat), Film 87 (new series reviewing Full Metal Jacket, Outrageous
Fortune and Hope And Glory). BBC2 was Live From The Proms at 7.30pm
followed by a repeat of the drama Man-Eaters of Kumaon at 9.40pm and
Newsnight at 11pm.
Top of the pop charts throughout September 87 was the
continuing Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley, the year's biggest
seller.
Skaro Says - Andrew Curnow likes the preview for
Time and the Rani, and agrees entirely with it! Jonno however thinks that
the preview should have left out the words "out for more"! This issue
continues the downward slide for Jonno - with a dull cover of Kate O'Mara,
as opposed to a photo of the Rani which would have been preferable, and
even a mention of Dynasty! And in the space of two months the price had
gone up by almost 50% for the same page count. He found the scene in the
comic strip of Jamie breaking down and weeping in front of the Doctor very
moving, and liked the idea that the Doctor had taught Jamie enough to
block the Time Lords' wiping of his memory.
