The
Basics - Issue 125, June 1987. The price rises to £1. The front cover
is a photo of the Sixth Doctor, the back cover is a pin up from Planet of
Evil, and there's a poster on the centre spread of the Sixth Doctor, Peri
and the TARDIS.
News And Views - Patrick Troughton passed away on
March 28th at an American convention, at the age of 67. The new season
will consist of two four parters, with the working titles Strange Matter
and Paradise Towers, and two three parters - the first three parter for 23
years. The letters page is now called You On Who! One letter writer has
two letters published (barring a mistake by the magazine).
Reviews - Off The Shelf reviews The Rescue ("superb,
amazing and enthralling") and looks at all of the late Ian Marter's
Target novelisations.
Boxpops - Top of the pop charts in June 87 were I
Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston and Star Trekkin' by The
Firm.
Skaro Says - Craig Rollins has no recollection of
hearing of Patrick Troughton's death, and thinks it is quite a while later
that he heard that he'd died. Jonno can't remember hearing about it either
- his interest in DWM began to diminish from now on, as this was the time
that he started getting DWB regularly. He loved Star Trekkin' - this was
at the start of what would be a very long summer break between leaving
school and starting Polytechnic. Andrew Curnow vaguely remembers the news
of Troughton's death, though he is not sure that it was from DWM. For him,
The Rescue is an excellent book, with a beautiful cover. He thought Star
Trekkin' was cool! Ant Cox liked The Rescue too - he thought Ian Marter
was a superb writer. Nathan Cooke remembers seeing about Troughton's death
on the news, and always associates it with Sylvester McCoy getting the
part, as does Andrew.
