The
Basics - Issue 123, April 1987. The front cover is artwork of the
First Doctor and the Cybermen by Alister Pearson, which also forms a free
fold out poster inside. The back cover pin up is from Revelation of the
Daleks.
News And Views - An extra length GG quotes Colin
Baker from The Sun about his departure. Andrew Cartmell (sic) is announced
as the new script editor. The ratings for the whole of Trial of a Time
Lord are published. Death to the Daleks is now due on video in May, with
Terror of the Zygons planned to follow. The Ark in Space, Spearhead From
Space, The Time Warrior, The Dead Planet and The Mind Robber are all in
the planning stage too. A letter writer suggests that Joanna Lumley would
make a good Doctor...
Reviews - The fourth story of the 23rd season is
reviewed -"The plot of the episodes was basically a runabout, with
twist after twist and as such, it worked well and looked good."
Other Regulars - A new four part comic
strip, The Gift, begins.
Boxpops - ALF debuts on ITV on 25 April. Top of
the pop charts in April 87 were Let It Be by Ferry Aid and La Isla Bonita
by Madonna.
Skaro Says - Si Hart notes that this
month's issue has a better cover, and liked the feature on Special
Effects. Craig Rollins finds this an unmemorable issue, with even the
Colin Baker interview being a reprint from The Sun. He hated ALF. Jonno
never bothered with ALF, having never been too keen on comedy sci-fi. For
him, we go from one of the worst covers to one of the best covers in the
space of one month! Andrew Curnow remembers nothing about this issue,
other than that the cover is a definite improvement on the previous issue.
Jon Masters describes The Gift as one of the worst comic strips ever
produced. He did enjoy the interview and the feature on Visual Effects.
