The Basics - Issue 121, February 1987. The main
photo on the front cover is of the Fifth Doctor, while the back cover pin
up is from The Celestial Toymaker.
News And Views - In a quiet month for news, there
is still no definite confirmation of another season, although it has been
widely rumoured that Colin Baker has signed up for a further run as the
Doctor. Andrew Pixley writes in to correct some mistakes in issue 118.
Reviews - The second story of Season 23 is reviewed
- "The story was a visual tour-de-force; the storyline was basically
sound, easy to follow and fun." Off The Shelf reviews The Romans -
"disappointing in the extreme - it fails on just about every count."
Boxpops - Top of the pop charts in February 87 were
I Knew You Were Waiting For Me by George Michael and Aretha Franklin and
Stand By Me by Ben E King.
Skaro Says - Logo Polish finds the news of the
rumours of another season with Colin Baker to be rather unfortunate, as
this issue would have been published some time after the news of his
sacking! He finds the novelisation of The Romans to be quite entertaining
and imaginative - an unusual and interesting
way of doing a novelisation. Much as he loves the story, Andrew Curnow
thinks that to call the second segment of the Trial easy to follow is wide
of the mark! He agrees with the review of The Romans - an interesting
idea, but it just doesn't come off. Then again, he has never liked the TV
story either. Andrew remembers his Dad telling him that Colin Baker had
been sacked, and was disappointed that he didn't carry on. Si Hart never
liked The Romans book either. Overall for him, this was not a bad issue,
with a good tribute to Ian Marter, and a lovely Davison picture on the
cover.
