The
Basics - Issue 114, July 1986. With 8 extra colour pages, this issue
costs £1. The front cover is taken from the original Target cover of The
Web of Fear, with Chris Achilleos interviewed inside, and the back cover
pin up is of Katryca from The Mysterious Planet.
News And Views - Lynda Bellingham and Michael
Jayston will guest star throughout the whole 14 part new series as the
Inquisitor and the Valeyard respectively. Due to the umbrella theme, the
whole series will have the overall title of The Trial of a Time Lord. The
third story has the working title of The Ultimate Foe, with its first four
episodes scripted by Pip and Jane Baker. With Robert Holmes seriously ill,
it is unclear who will be writing the final two episodes. Two letter
writers stand up for the casting of Bonnie Langford.
Reviews - Off The Shelf reviews The Celestial
Toymaker - "the story is nothing short of excellent and as a recounting
of the narrative, this book is also good."
Other Regulars - A new three part comic strip, Time
Bomb, begins.
Boxpops - Top of the pop charts in July 86 were the
continuing Wham! and Madonna's Papa Don't Preach.
Skaro Says - Andrew Curnow remembers the cover, and
thinks that DWM could have used a few more Target covers for their front
covers. He never liked the book of The Celestial Toymaker, and is
surprised to see that it got a good review (Jonno noted though that
overall the review wasn't too complimentary, but he found it hard to find
useful summing up phrases in the review). Andrew doesn't remember learning
that Robert Holmes was ill, only that he had subsequently died. Craig
Rollins on the other hand remembers Holmes being ill but not that he'd
died until some time afterwards. He also agreed that the cover was
memorable, and showed that artwork covers worked well. Si Hart loves the
cover, with the original Web of Fear book cover being his favourite piece
of DW art of all time, so to see it printed large was wonderful.
