Alternative Soundtracks – Robots of Death
The
Robots of Death was the first story that we did which included any
references to sex, and boy, did we go for broke on our first outing.
Basically Toos (who we christened Toast in our version) was ‘a woman of
ill repute’ on board the sandminer, staging regular appointments in her
quarters to satisfy herself and everyone else on board, including the
robots. There’s a particular scene towards the end of the story where one
of the robots is attempting to throttle Toos whilst she’s lying on her
bed, and we see both her view and the robot’s view of what is going on.
The back-and-forth motion of the robot against Toos’s body whilst he was
trying to strangle her was the ideal opportunity to have him shagging her
senseless (accompanied by some suitable grunts and groans), and tears of
laughter roll down my cheeks every time I watch it. The only robot that
wasn’t really interested was SV7 who I played as a rather camp controller.
Poor D84 was still the rather sweet character as established in the
original story, but he also becomes embroiled in Toos’s prostitution
racket as he apparently has a very big screwdriver. Poul’s eventual
breakdown in the story is not due to Robophobia, it’s actually because
Toos had worn him out with her insatiable need for ‘it’.
Commander Uvanov spent the entire story making references to his ‘lovely
hat’, and especially towards the end of the story when he’s suddenly not
wearing it and then spends the rest of the story asking everyone if
they’ve seen it. Andrew played Dask/Taren Capel as Elvis Presley
throughout the story simply because his hairstyle looked slightly like a
Teddy Boy, though his dialogue was rather limited to references to suede
shoes that were blue and not having a wooden heart.
There’s one particular line which I’m immensely proud of in this story,
though it is rather distasteful but then that’s nothing new as far as
these silly recordings are concerned. It’s the scene where Zilda stomps
down the stairs saying that she’s going to take her rest period – in our
version she announces to everyone that she’s ‘……going for her period’. Our
juvenile gutter-level standards continued in the scene where Leela and
Poul are sat at a table in the living quarters drinking water.
Unfortunately it wasn’t water in our version, but I’ll leave it up to your
imaginations as to what it really was. We should have been locked up.
