Dear Mr Hunter
Firstly please allow me to
congratulate you upon your recent success in being elected as Member of
Parliament for the Cheadle constituency and if I may say a victory justly
deserved.
I am a keen supporter of the key
issues and policies that both you and the Liberal Democrats stand for,
particularly on the local issues. The issues that I picked up on and the
main reasons behind my voting for you are:
1. Fairer Funding for local schools,
2. The leading role you have played
in moving forward the A555 link and your commitment to the quality of the
roads,
3. More police on patrol.
It is the second of these points
that I wish to bring to your attention. I discussed the point of the
quality of the roads in the area, with your representative when he called,
initially prior to the general election where the late Patsy Carlton was
standing. At which time I was glad to hear this was one of the areas that
was high on your agenda as to be quite honest I find the state of the
local roads to be quite unsatisfactory.
This has become an increasing issue
to me as the road on which I live has now become the worse for wear. The
road was not in fantastic condition previously however, the situation has
now taken a turn for the worse after the recent construction traffic that
has travelled up the road in building the new houses. The state of the
road is now that there a several large holes, which are significantly
below the top finish of the road. The result of this is that apart from
the obvious holes a number of large stones are being thrown up onto the
road after a car passes. Unfortunately without the much-needed repair
these holes are only increasing in size and it is at the stage where they
are now unavoidable in the car.
It is not just in the car that these
holes and stones are a hazard, I personally have tripped over the stones
that are being produced from the hole. Fortunately I am young and agile
therefore came to no harm however, I am concerned that it may be only a
matter of time before someone more elderly or frail, such as my mother may
trip and fall over either the stones or the holes. In today's culture of
claiming for compensation I would prefer that my taxes were put to use in
repairing the road in the initial instance rather than paying out on
compensation claims for something that could have been avoided.
My purpose of bring this to your
attention is two fold. Firstly I believe that the people responsible for
constructing the new houses were to make good anything they disturbed or
damaged. I would like you to take this forward to them so that the burden
of the full cost of repairing the road does not fall entirely to the
council and hence the taxpayer. Secondly Failing any action from the
construction company involved I would like to think you could take this
before the council and arrange for this to be repaired in time for winter
when the conditions will deteriorate further.
Please find enclosed a few pictures
that I have taken of only a couple of the holes in question, I trust this
illustrates the depth of the matter.
Yours Sincerely
AngryDave
